BREAKING: Brian Wilson Out For the Season
Beard down! I repeat, Beard down!
The Giants received some unpleasant news today as All Star closer Brian Wilson’s bothersome elbow will require surgery, shelving him for the rest of the season.
The Giants are riding high after their Opening Day shutout victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates but all of that is now marred by the loss of their most polarizing player. Bochy must now figure out who in the Giants bullpen will take over the closing duties with the likely short term candidates being Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla.
The Giants spent a large portion of the 2011 season without Wilson and will now have to go 155 games missing their best and only closer.
Wilson recorded the save for the Giants on Thursday against the Rockies but not without struggles as he clearly was bothered by something. Some reports had Wilson tweaking an ankle but obviously that was not the problem.
The Giants went without one of their best players for the majority of last season in Buster Posey, and must now do the same as Wilson and his beard will be going under the knife and acting as a spectator for the rest of 2012.
