There is no way of knowing that Beltran would take the same deal to play here. And I disagree that it was luck. It was the approach

of putting the available funds into multiple players. Huff had an up and down track record, they felt he could produce at 1st, and he did. Torres had shown defensive prowess the year before and then out and out won the job away from Rowand. The other pieces that Sabean grabbed - Burrell, Lopez, F. Sanchez, Ross, Fontenot and the home grown guys Ishikawa and Nate - all contributed. They went down the road of having one big guy without a lot of pieces when they had Bonds. It's unrealistic to expect them to be the Yankees.
