In Reply to: Why wouldn't he? He was evidently complimentary of the team in conversations with Pagan.

Lack of other offensive weapons and the ballpark itself. If he was going to sacrifice his numbers in the twilight years of his career, he wanted to be compensated accordingly. Sabean didn't comply.

Does that mean Bochy gets #15 back? Won the WS w/ it and team was doing good till he gave it to Beltran

yea, but he's not a lefty reliever!

- Beltran wanted $60 M/4yrs when we were trying to negotiate with him. - juan 2011-12-22 21:39:53 (146 views)

I really don't want to pay 25 million for Beltran...but please give us somebody who can hit...I'm underwhelmed by the team so far.
- holymoly 2011-12-22 20:59:38 (18 views)

And I just hate that we gave up that great young prospect for nothing...seriously, sabean should be b-slapped for that.

A prospect who is not going to make a big league roster any time soon and who can be replaced in the draft.

@Starburst..+1. I was happy with the Beltran trade and I didn't want to resign him.
- Calvin and Hobbs 2011-12-24 09:10:33 (17 views)
- That's where I'm at. Sabean went out and got the best hitter available to give the team a shot. But he's not who I want to bet the bank on. - starburst 2011-12-24 10:29:24 (15 views)

That's a good answer, the Giants do not get any comp pick, and we spent a high pitching prospect on a rental.

@gwarriors. That doesn't fly. The Giants payroll is 5th highest in baseball and that doesn't include the $20Million a year

- Aww, you are bringing facts into it. - Earl j. Slick 2011-12-23 09:09:24 (20 views)

x2 Beltran was asking for a much bigger deal. That wasn't happening so his price dropped. They need to focus on Lincecum and Cain. When Zito and Rowand are off the books they will spend more on free agents,

ftr, this is exactly what I was saying would happen when they spent like $10 a year on relievers

Larry Ellison would have made us choose between Fonts and Kepp?
- shikantaza 2011-12-23 07:54:04 (34 views)
-
The left-handed relievers they signed have more impact on the team than Fonts and Kepp. Ellison would have scoffed at either of them. They aren't exactly elite players. They're guys every team, even big spenders, have on the roster. So they chose. So what?
- starburst 2011-12-23 10:14:06 (12 views)
- If they had passed on the relievers, I wouldn't have wanted that money to go to Kepp... - shikantaza 2011-12-23 10:25:49 (18 views)

good riddance..he doesn't hustle, wouldn't play left even though nate's much better in right, and is hurt every other day..spend the $$ on our pitchers..we'll be fine

our offense has been worst or near worst in the league almost every year except 2010

My beef is not with the 130$$ payroll, its spending 10 on Lefty relievers when you need a 3,4,5 hitter
- MoonMan 2011-12-23 08:13:22 (26 views)

They need the relievers. If it was $7M you still don't get a hitter.

It won a world series. They aren't going to "buy" a major bat until the mistakes of the previous managing partner are off the books.
- starburst 2011-12-23 10:07:21 (18 views)

Beltran was a major bat they could have bought for a very reasonable sum... not much more than they paid Huff actually
- shikantaza 2011-12-23 10:22:38 (28 views)
- There is no way of knowing that Beltran would take the same deal to play here. And I disagree that it was luck. It was the approach - starburst 2011-12-23 18:08:48 (18 views)

If they could have dumped Sanchez for prospects, that's another 5 mill or so
