Whether those guys turned into something or not, you're still giving x-amount of value as determined by the other team. And the value surrendered on our behalf is nearly always youth at the top of the barrel.
If you deal from your top 10 prospect pool long enough (nearly every season in the G's case) you will eventually get burned...the Pryzinski trade being a prime example of top 10 org prospect guys nobody lamented losing until it was too late.
In the specific case of past prospects cited, you're talking about a lot of lost depth at two current areas of concern: LHP in the bullpen and depth at the #5 starter spot.
