… A reliable source told me that the Giants have had discussions with right-hander Ryan Vogelsong’s camp regarding a contract for 2012 — and beyond. The talks aren’t yet to the sign-here point, and there’s plenty of time to get something done because Vogelsong is under club control as an arbitration-eligible player, but the 2011 Willie Mac Award winner is all ears when it comes to a multi-year deal, and the Giants are open to the idea as well.

It’d be a great move of a number of fronts to lock up Vogelsong for at least two years. He’s never had real security as a big leaguer, so he’s not exactly looking to break the bank; his salary via arbitration is projected in the $2-3 million range, so as little as $8 million for two years would probably do it, and that’s a bargain for a legit No. 3 starter. And come on, the guy turned down a deal from the Dodgers because he so desperately wanted to be a Giant again.

He’s the anti-Juan Uribe. Reward that. Pay the man.
