He negotiated a contract that let him go free agent without any impediments for teams who might bid on him. That's a smart move. It was bargained for and the Mets gave it to him. What's wrong with any of that from Beltran's point of view?
It's not like the Giants gave it to him. They just took the risk that he could make a difference last season, which turned out to be wrong.
