I don't think so. Maybe the fans weren't all in support. If the Giants were trying to trade him, it wasn't because of the guy's talent.

For all the guy's brilliance and periods of wildness, the word happy did not seem to pop up into this guy's lexicon. I think he needed someone who could get through to him and handle him, i.e. take care of him. I am saying this in a good way. However, at several times it appeared his problems were in his head and not so much physical ailments.
