Way back when Torres was just slapping at the ball because he'd been told to do that to use his speed. He didn't have a real swing. Beltran and someone else were laughing at him and then worked with him to develop a real swing that would generate some power and drive the ball a bit.
Last year Torres came in thinking he was going to hit home runs and tried to pull everything, and when Beltran saw it he told him to stop trying to pull everything and use the whole field.
That's my recollection of what I've read about it.
Seems to me that both times the advice was good. I think he told Panda to stay balanced and use the whole field too. And Panda did.
Well, there were two different bits of advice years apart.
