I think Sabean and Bochy thought they needed to get a couple of bats and suddenly the Giants would be back in the WS. Nope. Even though the Giants won the WS and have great pitching, they need to build their speed, defense, and hitting. It's not going to be one bat to rule them all. The better strategy is to build the team instead of giving up promising picks to get a short-term rental like Carlos Beltran or Orlando Cabrera, and pay a hefty price to get Miguel Tejada from free agency. I hope Melky Cabrera is a step in the right direction.

If we can get someone who is a true lead-off, can steal bases, and can play D, then it would be improving the team. I would be okay with trading Jeff Keppinger for a pick or two to help restock out farm system. Others would be to improve the OF and get a back-up for IF, not another short-term rental like Willie Bloomquist :p. Have more faith in Brandon Crawford. He will turn 25 in 2012 and he hit well in the AFL. Brandon Belt would be another. If Belt still needs more seasoning, then let him start in AAA. Those are the kind of risks, I can afford to take. If we can re-sign Beltran for fair money, then that's fine. However, to break the bank for him would be stupid.
