Sabean should not have dealt our best pitching prospect for the short-term rental of Carlos Beltran. It turned out the other GMs weren't in the bidding. Now we do not have a solid anchor player in the OF. The last one we had long-term was Aaron Rowand :p :p :p :p :p.
The Giants used to have great OFs -- Mays, Bonds Jr, Mitchell, Bonds Sr, Clark, Leonard, etc, but not anymore. I miss the long ball. Sabean said that we would go with pitching, defense, and speed, but now it's pitching and that's it.
We're supposed to have defense and speedy runners, but we don't. Schierholtz is a good OF, but doesn't have the great arm of Beltran. Beltran is getting old and will be costly. If the Giants can sign him to a 2 or 3-yr deal, then he would become the best OFer, but he's just another greedmeister looking out for himself. Instead of overpaying for Beltran with Zack Wheeler, it would have made more sense in the long-run dealing for Michael Bourn, who can play both LF, CF, and lead off. He's not a home run hitter, but he would have been an anchor and a speed burner in the top of the order. The future OF of Bourn, Belt, and eventually Brown could have been the Giants Killer B's. (Beltran is another B, but he's not going to be here long unless we overpay him and give him another Aaron Rowand contract :p.)
The Carlos Beltran detractors were right!
