I want a Pablo, because Pablo is awesome.

Seriously though, big lefty thumper is probably not going to work. And since first base is often a lefty hitter position, I am perfectly fine with a gap hitter with a high obp. In fact, despite the fact he is dodger, I think Loney would fit at first here. If Ruiz is like Loney, I think he would be a good signing. Actually, if Ishikawa didn't have such a huge hole in his swing and could hit closer to 300/350/450 and the team had that righty masher playing LF, he could be at first in my scenario.

I think I have written before that the team should have good D and some speed.

If I was going to have a lumbering homer hitter the only position I would play him is LF and he should hit right handed and be a pull hitter (assuming you couldn't find a good D playing, right masher for first, like Pujols, ie. a superstar).

CF should be fast, RF should be more fleet and a better outfielder than typical RFers.

with the reliance on pitching, up the middle D should be stellar.

So how do the current Giants stack up?

first, team speed is awful.
second, team D is probably not where it should be.
Individually...

Pablo - check.
LF Derosa - fail, not a premium D position and not enough power.
Catcher - Posey would be perfect, good D, athletic for a catcher... Molina... is okay, though he hurts the team speed and obp.
RF - Schierholtz would get a check. above average Defensive RFer with some speed. More power would be nice.
SS - Rents - Fail. Maybe they should have kept 50 year old Vizquel.
1b - Huff - Fail. He is not likely to have the power to beat att. He is not a gap to gap contact hitter with a high obp, no speed and not a great defender.
2b - Franchez - check, sort of. He is a good defender when his arm isn't falling off. Would be better if he had more speed or power. I think Orlando Hudson or Aki Iwamura would have been better fits.
CF - Gamer - Check. actually, no. If Rowand had at least one stellar tool he would make more sense, but he is just a steaming pile of mediocre. D is probably his best attribute and that is not even that great. Not hitting homers, not stealing bases, not walking.

No good first baseman in the org is true, but no good CFers is also a huge hole. The best are Ford and Pergero, but they both have big question marks.

So if I was the GM, the biggest dif would have been adding Dye instead of DeRosa. He would play LF and maybe some first. Mr. Versatility would not have been needed with the resigning of Uribe.

I feel like I am stuck with rents and rowand. I would have graduated Posey, so no Molina.

Franchez is okay, but Hudson or Iwamura or even Felipe Lopez might be better at the top of the lineup.

First is the big question mark. I might give Ishikawa one more shot. After Nick Johnson turns me down.

So my team would be paid a lot less: especially if we waited out Dye and Hudson.

since I am in fantasy world I will just call Posey ready to mash.

2b - Hudson
RF - Schierholtz
3b - Pablo
LF - Dye
C - Posey
CF - Rowand
1b - Ishikawa
SS - Renteria

supersubs:
Uribe, Lewis, Bowker, Velez/torres,

maybe not much better, but cheaper.
